Hinterland, Magnifique Bastide En Pierre

Le Thoronet is a small commune in the Var department of Provence, set among dense oak and pine forest in the hinterland between the Maures massif and the Verdon plateau. The village is defined by its deep rural character and by the Abbaye du Thoronet, one of the three great Cistercian abbeys of Provence, whose 12th-century Romanesque architecture draws scholars and visitors from across Europe. The surrounding landscape is agricultural and forested, with vineyards producing Côtes de Provence wines on the surrounding hillsides.

The village itself is small, with a weekly market and basic services. Lorgues, approximately 12 kilometres away, offers a broader range of restaurants, a Saturday market, and the well-regarded truffle market in winter. Draguignan, around 20 kilometres north, provides supermarkets, medical facilities, and a wider commercial offer for day-to-day needs.

Le Thoronet sits roughly 80 kilometres from Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, accessible in approximately one hour by car via the A8 motorway. Les Arcs-Draguignan TGV station, around 20 kilometres away, connects to Paris Gare de Lyon in approximately three hours and to Marseille in under one hour. Toulon-Hyères Airport is approximately 60 kilometres to the south, offering additional domestic and European connections.
