The history of Tschenglsburg dates back to the High Middle Ages. In the late 13th or early 14th century, the Lords of Tschengls built a new, more comfortable residential castle in the village, thereby relocating their seat from the higher-elevation Tschenglsberg Castle down into the valley.

After the noble family died out in 1421, the castle passed to the Lords of Lichtenstein, who expanded it in the 16th century. Later, it came into the possession of the Counts of Fuchs von Fuchsberg, giving rise to the nickname “Fuchsburg,” which is still used today.

To this day, historic walls, towers, vaults, and the characteristic round-arched gate define the complex’s appearance. Despite various phases of construction, Tschenglsburg has retained its original character over the centuries.
