Waves on the rocks below, wind through the palms, and out past the seawall, easy laughter from the surfers at the Kahaluu break. Look down, and the reef is alive underneath them, yellow tang over the coral, honu rising to breathe and gliding back along the seawall. Spinner dolphins pass most mornings, and on a winter day you may look up to a humpback breaching offshore.

By afternoon you’re in the water. A shaded place to sit in the side yard under mango, banana, and citrus, with easy in-and-out access right there. Grab a mask or a board and go. Snorkel straight off the property, or paddle out and take a few. Rinse off, back up the steps, and you’re on the lanai with a cold drink.

Inside, vaulted wood-lined ceilings carry the view through the house.
