Built between 1837 and 1840, this century old building exudes character and charm and her story is almost as colourful and lengthy as that of the old wagon route leading up to the then “Transvaal”. In 1840 it was a “Voortrekker Farmhouse” and in 1855 it was known as “Stevens Pub” or “Stevens Canteen”.

Old Halliwell Country Inn, with its original homestead dating back to the 1830’s, was originally a fortified wagon stop. The chapel was originally a “Smithy” where wagons were repaired and horses shod.

Today it reflects a picturesque country hotel set on 11 Hectares of open lawns and incredible views of the Karkloof Valley, enjoying the beautiful pastures and fresh air on offer.

The wedding venue, set just behind the main building, can accommodate up to 280 guests. This high roofed light and airy insulated building with a clear 450 square meters of wooden floor space, has it’s own kitchen, bar, ample toilets, heated if required. This special venue, opens up onto the beautiful gardens and allows the guests to either use the neighbouring chapel for your ceremony or if they prefer, a beautiful, intimate garden wedding with the Karkloof Valley as your backdrop. There reception venue, with varying shades of creams and whites, can have the draping moved to create the intimate space you require.

To align to the venue, they offer 15 rooms on suite, a swimming pool as well as a fully operational A La Carte restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Chapel: Can be used for the ceremony and can seat 120 guests with standing room for another 30 guests.

Halliwell has large, comfortable guest rooms, all leading in from the garden with open fireplaces and private verandahs overlooking the Karkloof Valley

In an age of constant change, the original charm and added love of all the owners over the years sees this great property still standing solidly with permanence.
