In Gussago, in a quiet residential context, we propose a unique property built according to the principles of bioarchitecture and following the alternation of Yin and Yang. The dwelling is constructed in such a way that it can be felt and made into a place to recharge. The space and round shape of the house make it the ideal refuge for its inhabitants while also making it extremely economical from an energy expenditure perspective. The building is designed in a Greek cross plan and formed by circular elements, thus enabling the building to receive sunlight at any time of the day and absorb energy from every direction in equal measure. An essential element of the house is the management of natural light, a primary ingredient for human well-being, essential for biological balance, which also provides the perception of the passage of time. In the living area, the dome placed at the center captures and sends the maximum amount of natural light to the environment. The house has been built sustainably to meet energy-saving criteria, following the guidelines of Casa Clima, for which it has obtained the European certificate, thus satisfying the following criteria: • Thermal demand for heating lower than 50 kWh per square meter per year; • No use of fossil energy sources; • No use of synthetic thermal insulators and/or containing harmful fibers; • No use of PVC floors, windows, or doors; • No use of chemical wood preservatives for closed environments; • No use of paints or varnishes containing solvents; • No use of tropical wood. The systems of the house are managed through an advanced home automation system. For the walls, biocalce was used, which allows the walls to breathe and enables moisture to exit quickly, making the house healthy from the start. Biocalce has a very high porosity and improves the internal microclimate. The wall remains dry and warm, along with the disinfectant action of lime that prevents bacteria and mold from taking root in the walls and proliferating to the detriment of the healthiness of the environments. Furthermore, once discarded, bio lime can be recycled as inert material. The structure is waterproofed with a non-woven fabric that prevents water migration phenomena and autonomously seals the cracks caused by concrete shrinkage. The walls are insulated with 5 cm thick rock wool, a material classified among non-classifiable substances regarding its carcinogenicity to humans. The building is clad with Aurisina stone, and the fixtures are made exclusively with 100% spruce wood.
