Grasse occupies a hillside position in the Alpes-Maritimes, roughly 17 kilometres inland from Cannes, at an elevation that keeps it cooler than the coast while preserving wide views across the Esterel and, on clear days, to the Mediterranean. The city has been the centre of the French perfume industry for centuries, a heritage recognised by UNESCO in 2018 when the savoir-faire of Grasse was inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Its old town retains a dense, layered character of narrow lanes, Baroque churches, and ochre facades.

Daily life in Grasse centres on the Place aux Aires market, held three mornings a week, and the covered market on Cours Honoré Cresp. The old town offers restaurants including Le Gazan on Rue du Gazan. The perfume houses of Fragonard, Molinard, and Galimard are all within the city. Cannes, with its full range of dining, retail, and cultural venues, is a 30-minute drive.

Grasse is served by regular bus connections to Cannes, where the train station provides TGV access to Nice, Marseille, and Paris. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is approximately 40 kilometres from Grasse, reachable in around 45 minutes by car, and operates direct flights to major European and international destinations. The A8 motorway, accessible via Cannes or Mougins, connects the region to Monaco and the Italian border to the east.
