A newly renovated cave house (2018) just 5 min drive from Fira, the center of Santorini. It is located in the traditional settlement of Mesaria. That means it is truly beautiful, peaceful and quiet, as no cars are allowed. You can park on the main road which is 4 min walking distance. In the neighborhood, there are many traditional buildings and houses and the security is high level. The house is one of the traditional cave houses of Santorini. Santorini’s land due to its insulating properties makes the house keep warm in winter and cool in the summer. The average temperature is about 23 degrees. Santorini might be famous for its white-blue domed houses, but it’s also known for its traditional cave houses. The cave houses -called “Yposkafa” in Greek- can be found in many of the traditional settlements of Santorini. They are actual, pretty functional for the time, houses which were built inside caves and are of great historical interest as it is a “living” proof of the earlier years local customs.
