Escorca is the least populated municipality in Mallorca and sits at the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range that runs along the island’s northwestern spine. The area is defined by dramatic limestone peaks, ancient olive groves, and near-total absence of urban development. The Serra de Tramuntana was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape in 2011, a recognition of its centuries-old system of terraced agriculture and water management that shaped this terrain.
Daily life here operates at a remove from conventional amenities. The village of Lluc, within the municipality, is home to the Monestir de Lluc, Mallorca’s most significant pilgrimage site. The market town of Pollença is approximately 20 kilometres north, and Sóller, with its restaurants, weekly market, and rail connection, is roughly 25 kilometres southwest.
Palma de Mallorca is approximately 35 kilometres south of Escorca, reachable in around 45 minutes by car via the MA-10 mountain road. Palma Airport handles direct flights to most major European cities and several intercontinental routes, with journey time from Escorca to the terminal running approximately 50 minutes. There is no public transport serving Escorca directly, making a private vehicle essential for all daily movement.
