Torre del Mar is the coastal town of the Velez-Malaga municipality, sitting at the mouth of the Velez River on the Axarquia coast, roughly 30 kilometres east of Malaga city. It has a distinct character from the resort towns further west: a long, wide promenade, a working fishing harbour, and a resident population that gives it year-round life. The surrounding Axarquia region, with its whitewashed villages and terraced hillsides, provides an immediate hinterland of considerable quality.

The Paseo Maritimo runs the length of the seafront and is lined with restaurants serving locally caught fish. The Friday market in Velez-Malaga town, five kilometres inland, is well established. The Torre del Mar lighthouse and the nearby Caleta de Velez marina are practical reference points for daily orientation. Velez-Malaga town offers banks, schools, and administrative services.

Malaga city is approximately 35 minutes by car via the A-7 coastal road, or around 45 minutes by the regular bus service operated by Alsa. Malaga Maria Zambrano station provides high-speed AVE connections to Madrid in under two and a half hours and to Seville in under two hours. Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport is roughly 40 kilometres west, reachable in approximately 35 to 40 minutes by car, with direct routes across Europe and beyond.
