Cannes occupies a singular position on the French Riviera, a city whose international reputation is built on more than its annual film festival. La Croisette, the celebrated seafront boulevard, defines the city’s identity: a two-kilometre arc of palm-lined promenade facing the Bay of Cannes, flanked by the grand palace hotels that have anchored the city’s prestige since the Belle Époque. The hills of Le Suquet, the old town, rise to the west, giving the city a layered character that extends well beyond its glamorous waterfront.

Daily life in Cannes centres on the Marché Forville, the covered market a short walk from La Croisette, open every morning except Monday. The Rue Meynadier offers independent food shops and casual dining. Restaurants of note include La Palme d’Or at the Martinez and Mantel in the old town. The Lerins Islands are accessible by ferry from the Vieux-Port in under 15 minutes.

Cannes is served by its own train station on the main Marseille to Ventimiglia line, with direct TGV services to Paris taking approximately five hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is 26 kilometres east, reachable in around 30 minutes by car or taxi, and operates direct routes to over 100 destinations including major European capitals and long-haul connections. Monaco is approximately 45 minutes by road.
