Cannes occupies a singular position on the French Riviera, a city whose international reputation is built on the film festival but whose daily reality is that of a well-functioning Mediterranean city with a serious residential market. The Croisette promenade, the old port, and the hillside quarter of Le Suquet define its urban character. The Midi beach area, to the west of the Croisette, offers a quieter residential setting while remaining within easy reach of the city centre.

The Marché Forville supplies fresh produce daily and is the reference market for serious cooks in Cannes. The Croisette concentrates the major hotels and restaurants, including the Majestic and the Carlton. Le Suquet offers more neighbourhood-scale dining. The Lerins Islands, a short ferry ride from the old port, provide a genuine escape from the city.

Cannes-Mandelieu airport handles private and charter traffic and is approximately ten minutes by car. Nice Côte d’Azur international airport, the primary hub for the region, is around 30 kilometres east, roughly 30 to 40 minutes by road or by the coastal train service from Cannes station. High-speed TGV services connect Cannes to Paris in approximately five and a half hours, with direct services to Marseille in under two hours.
