Sotogrande is one of southern Europe’s most established private residential enclaves, occupying a stretch of coastline in the municipality of San Roque, Cádiz province. Developed from the 1960s onward, it has built a reputation around polo, golf, and a low-density residential character that sets it apart from the more densely developed Costa del Sol to the east. The Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, one of Spain’s oldest and most respected courses, anchors the area’s identity alongside the Valderrama course, host of the 1997 Ryder Cup.

Daily life in Sotogrande centres on the marina, which offers a concentration of restaurants and cafés including La Taberna del Puerto and Trocadero Marina. The Sotogrande commercial centre covers everyday retail needs. Puerto Banús and Marbella are approximately 40 minutes by car, and Gibraltar’s supermarkets are a practical 20-minute drive for international provisions.

Gibraltar International Airport is approximately 20 kilometres from Sotogrande, around 20 to 25 minutes by car, and operates direct routes to London, Manchester, and other European cities. Málaga Airport, with its broader international network, is roughly 90 kilometres away, approximately one hour by motorway via the AP-7. The A-7 and AP-7 connect Sotogrande directly to Marbella, Málaga, and Algeciras, where ferry services run to Morocco and the Canary Islands.
