Bonnieux is one of the most architecturally intact perched villages in the Luberon, rising sharply above the Calavon valley on the northern face of the Petit Luberon massif. The village divides into a lower and upper section, with the 12th-century old church at its summit commanding views across to Lacoste, Ménerbes, and the Vaucluse plateau. This is the geographic and cultural heart of what is commonly referred to as the Golden Triangle, the cluster of hilltop villages that defines the most sought-after residential corridor in Provence.
Daily life here centres on the Friday market in the lower village, the Musée de la Boulangerie on Rue de la République, and a short drive to Lourmarin for a broader range of restaurants and shops. Café de la Gare in Bonnieux and Le Fournil restaurant are established local references. Apt, 12 kilometres east, serves as the main market town for weekly provisioning.
Bonnieux sits approximately 50 kilometres from Avignon, where both the TGV station and the city centre are reachable in under an hour by car. Aix-en-Provence TGV station is roughly the same distance to the south, connecting to Paris in approximately three hours. Marseille Provence Airport at Marignane is around 70 kilometres away, typically one hour by car, with direct international routes across Europe and beyond.
