Varages – Elegant Restored 17th Century House

Varages is a small Provençal village in the Var department, set on the edge of the Verdon Natural Regional Park at an elevation that keeps summers cooler than the coastal plain. The village has a distinct identity rooted in its centuries-long tradition of faïence pottery production, which gave it the title of the faïence capital of Provence. Its stone architecture, medieval street pattern, and working village character place it firmly in the category of authentic inland Provence rather than the more touristic Luberon.

The weekly market covers local produce, honey, and regional specialties. Brignoles, the nearest market town, is roughly 20 kilometres to the south and provides supermarkets, medical services, and a broader restaurant offer. The Gorges du Verdon, one of Europe’s most significant canyon landscapes, is accessible within 40 minutes by car.

Brignoles is the practical hub for the area, reached in under 25 minutes by car. Aix-en-Provence is approximately 60 kilometres to the west, around 50 minutes by road, and provides TGV connections to Paris in roughly three hours. Marseille Provence Airport is the nearest international gateway, approximately 80 kilometres from Varages, with a drive time of around one hour depending on route and traffic.
