Santanyí is one of the most architecturally coherent towns in the southeast of Mallorca, built almost entirely from the warm golden sandstone quarried locally for centuries. The weekly market, the medieval church of Sant Andreu, and the compact grid of stone-paved streets give the town a self-contained character that has attracted a discerning international community without sacrificing its Mallorcan identity. Palma is approximately 60 kilometres from Santanyí, reachable in around 50 minutes by car via the Ma-19. Palma de Mallorca Airport handles direct flights to most major European cities, with journey times from the airport to Santanyí running to roughly 45 to 55 minutes depending on traffic. There is no direct rail connection to the southeast of the island, so a car is essential for daily life in this part of Mallorca.
