Charming 19th Century Provençal Mas With Pool

Pernes-les-Fontaines is one of the Luberon’s most quietly distinguished addresses, a medieval market town in the Vaucluse that predates its more famous neighbour Fontaine-de-Vaucluse by centuries. The town takes its name from the 40-odd historic fountains that punctuate its streets and squares, fed by the Nesque river. Its ramparts, Romanesque tower, and painted chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth give the town a layered architectural character that feels genuinely lived-in rather than curated for tourism.

Daily life centres on the Saturday market in the old town. L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, with its antique dealers and Sunday market, is 10 kilometres west. Carpentras, the Vaucluse’s prefecture, is 6 kilometres north and offers a covered market, hospital, and full commercial infrastructure. The Luberon villages of Gordes and Roussillon are within 30 minutes by car.

Carpentras train station connects to Avignon TGV in under 30 minutes, placing Paris within 2 hours 40 minutes by high-speed rail. Avignon TGV also provides direct services to Lyon, Marseille, and Paris. Marseille Provence Airport is approximately 80 kilometres south, around one hour by car, and serves a broad range of European and international routes. Avignon Caumont Airport handles private aviation and is 25 kilometres away.
