Oppède-le-Vieux is one of the most architecturally intact medieval villages in the Luberon, perched on a rocky spur above the Calavon plain with views across vineyards and orchards toward the Vaucluse plateau. The upper village, largely abandoned in the 18th century and partially resettled by artists and intellectuals in the 20th, retains its collegiate church of Notre-Dame-Dalidon, its ruined château, and a dense fabric of Estaillades stone buildings that have changed little in five centuries.
Daily shopping and markets are in Coustellet, roughly ten minutes by car, which hosts one of the Luberon’s best weekly farmers markets on Sunday mornings. Ménerbes, Gordes, and Bonnieux are each within fifteen minutes and offer restaurants, galleries, and wine estates. Apt, the main market town of the Luberon, is twenty minutes east.
Avignon TGV station is approximately one hour by car, connecting to Paris Gare de Lyon in around two hours and forty minutes by high-speed rail. Marseille Provence Airport is also roughly one hour away, with direct flights to major European cities. Aix-en-Provence is accessible in under an hour, and the A7 motorway provides straightforward access to Lyon and the broader French road network.
