Anís

Set above a secluded cove on the Mykonian coastline, Anise occupies a protected waterfront position with open eastern views across the Aegean. The estate follows the natural topography of the site, with a series of whitewashed volumes and stone-built elements stepping gradually down the hillside towards the sea. Rather than imposing itself on the landscape, the architecture is integrated into it, responding to the contours of the terrain and the changing levels of the coastline below.

Extending across 1,000 sqm (10,764 sq.ft.) on a 13,000 sqm (139,931 sq.ft.) plot, the residence is arranged as a collection of interconnected structures that create a balance between openness and privacy. Traditional Cycladic forms are interpreted with restraint, combining clean geometric lines, white plaster surfaces and natural stone to create a composition that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in its setting.

The interior spaces are organised around the relationship between light, landscape and sea views. Large openings frame the horizon throughout the house, while the arrangement of the volumes allows natural light to move through the interiors from early morning onwards. The architectural language remains consistent throughout, with a restrained material palette and a strong emphasis on proportion, simplicity and connection to the outdoors.

Ten en-suite bedrooms are distributed across the estate, positioned to maximise privacy while maintaining a visual connection to the surrounding landscape. The layout allows individual accommodation areas to feel independent from one another, creating a sense of retreat within the wider property. Throughout the residence, the sea remains a constant presence, visible from the principal rooms and many of the private spaces.

The outdoor areas unfold across a series of terraces that follow the natural slope towards the coastline. Broad platforms create a gradual transition between the house and the sea, while stone retaining walls anchor the architecture within the landscape. The scale of the grounds allows generous spacing between the built elements, reinforcing the sense of openness and ensuring uninterrupted views across the water.

A private path descends through the property to the shoreline below, connecting the upper levels of the estate directly to a secluded cove. This direct relationship with the sea is a defining characteristic of the property, creating a rare continuity between the architecture, the landscape and the coastline itself.
