Exclusive Daniel FEAU: In the heart of Provence, 1 hour from Aix en Provence, in the village center, an ancient Templar castle dating from the 13th century, steeped in over eight centuries of history, with 813m2 of space.
Built as a fortress in 1207 by the Order of the Templars, then home to the Hospitallers and the Knights of Malta, the castle has endured through the ages without ever losing its soul. It features sober and powerful architecture, a central building flanked by two square towers, a spiral staircase, a chapter house, vast rooms, and remarkable vaulted cellars.
A unique property offering exceptional potential for restoration into a private residence full of character or exceptional guest rooms, ideal for lovers of heritage and authenticity.
A rare testament to medieval Provençal history.
History: In 1207, the Count of Provence Alphonse II ceded his lands of Montfort-sur-Argens and its castle to the Order of the Templars. The existing building was then reinforced and transformed into a true fortress. The many commanders who stayed there oversaw and managed the estates and trained novices who would fight in Palestine. Their training ground, a kind of natural amphitheater, is still visible two hundred meters from the castle.
The building’s architecture is functional and sober, reflecting the life of the Commanders. It has three floors, two of which are habitable, with the third forming the attic. The whole rests on vaulted cellars forming several rooms. The roof has been redone.
