Marbella occupies a privileged position on the Costa del Sol, backed by the Sierra Blanca mountains and facing the Mediterranean. It has been Spain’s most internationally recognised luxury resort destination since the 1950s, attracting a cosmopolitan resident base drawn by the climate, the golf infrastructure, and the concentration of high-end real estate along the so-called Golden Mile. The old town, with its Plaza de los Naranjos and whitewashed lanes, gives the city a genuine Andalusian core beneath its international reputation.

Daily life centres on the Golden Mile corridor, Puerto Banús marina, and the old town. Key dining includes Nobu Marbella, Coya, and Messina. The Mercado de Abastos serves fresh produce. The area has over 70 golf courses within a short drive, and the beaches of Nikki Beach and Playa de la Fontanilla are well-maintained and accessible year-round.

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is approximately 60 kilometres from central Marbella, a journey of around 45 minutes by car. The airport operates direct routes to most major European cities and several long-haul destinations. Marbella has no rail connection, so the car is the primary mode of transport locally. Málaga city, with its high-speed AVE rail links to Madrid (under two and a half hours) and Seville, is accessible in under an hour by road.
