Maó, the capital of Menorca, sits above one of the deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, a fact that has shaped its character across centuries of British, Spanish, and Moorish influence. Menorca Airport is approximately five kilometres from the city centre, a drive of around ten minutes. The airport operates direct flights to major European cities including London, Barcelona, Madrid, Frankfurt, and Paris, with the highest frequency of routes running from April through October. Barcelona is reachable by overnight ferry from the port of Maó, a crossing of around eight hours, and by air in under an hour.
