Authentic Tahoe architecture defines this distinctive McKinney Shores home, where soaring knotty-wood ceilings, massive exposed log beams and a river-rock fireplace create a dramatic great room. Handsome pines frame the corridor views of Lake Tahoe, while the home’s proximity to the shore creates a wonderful sense of connection with the lake. Sliders open to the expansive deck, extending the living space outdoors for dining, entertaining, and relaxing among the trees.. The primary suite shares the main living level with the great room, dining area and kitchen, while the lower-level family room opens directly to unusually usable level lawns surrounded by mature Tahoe landscaping. Just two blocks from the lake, McKinney Shores owners enjoy a shared beach and two community piers, with a limited number of association buoys available for seasonal rental. Obexer’s Marina and boat launch are nearby. Trails into Desolation Wilderness, including routes toward Quail Lake, begin approximately two blocks in the opposite direction. A level driveway, generous off-street parking and Hwy 89 just two blocks away provide easy year-round access, especially during winter storms and for first tracks. Neighborhood topography helps deflect road sound, preserving the serenity of the setting. Homewood Mountain Resort, presently installing its new gondola, is approximately two miles away. Built by its current owners in 1996 and consistently cared for and maintained over three decades, this is a compelling combination of authentic Tahoe character, lake access, boating, wilderness and skiing. Established in 1864, Tahoe City has a rich heritage dating back to the Gold Rush, when fortune hunters passed through on their way to search for silver in the Comstock Lode. A visit to any one of the museums and historical landmarks managed by the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society provides insights into how this town has evolved from frontier outposts to an appealing enclave of lakefront restaurants, homegrown coffee shops, boutiques and private estates. Tahoe City’s Lakefront Commons Beach is the heart of the town and provides acres of room to spread out, relax, hear a concert or peruse the Farmer’s Market in summer. At the north end, the park blends into Tahoe State Recreation Area, with right-on-the-lake campsites. The adjacent public pier makes a great place to jump into Lake Tahoe. The centrally located Tahoe City Marina is home to the Tahoe Yacht Club which hosts weekly sailing series and other popular nautical events. Located a little higher up on the mountainside of the town, you’ll find the world-class cross-country center Tahoe XC, which is the launching point to an outdoor enthusiast’s Never-Never Land. Mountain bikers, hikers and runners can stretch out and experience stellar lake views, while undertaking the challenge presented by the web of trails and singletrack. In the winter, 65 kilometers of groomed cross-country track branch out from the center. Also in the winter, the town hosts Snowfest, North Lake Tahoe’s version of Mardi Gras, with parades, live music, and snow play. A mélange of playful year-round activities, boutique shops, acclaimed restaurants and seasonal festivals awaits every visitor and local of the beautiful Tahoe City. Tahoe City is located just minutes from Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Sunnyside and Homewood Resort and connected to these iconic destinations by a paved bike bath that runs along the Truckee River and the shores of Lake Tahoe.
