Grasse occupies a singular position in the cultural geography of Provence, perched at around 330 metres above sea level in the pre-Alps foothills, with the Côte d’Azur coast visible to the south. Known internationally as the world capital of perfume, the city has shaped the global fragrance industry for centuries, and its historic centre retains the dense, layered character of a medieval Provençal town: narrow lanes, ochre facades, and covered arcades. The surrounding countryside, planted with olive groves and wildflowers, defines the landscape immediately beyond the old walls.
The old town holds the Musée International de la Parfumerie and the historic houses of Fragonard, Molinard, and Galimard, all open year-round. The covered market on Place aux Aires operates daily. Cabris, a hilltop village with restaurants and panoramic views, is roughly five minutes by car. Cannes is approximately 25 kilometres south.
Grasse sits on the A8 motorway corridor, placing Nice approximately 40 kilometres to the east and Cannes around 30 minutes by road. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the second busiest in France with direct routes to most major European cities and several intercontinental destinations, is reachable in under an hour by car. A regional bus service connects Grasse to Cannes, where TGV connections reach Paris in roughly five and a half hours.
