In Menorca, on the edge of the Barranc d’Algendar, a rural property in need of renovation, set amongst farmland, woodland and a protected natural area. Since the Middle Ages, the Camí Reial has linked Ferreries to Ciutadella via the Barranc d’Algendar. It was the main route between the two towns. Volunteers have patiently cleared several kilometres of it, and the ravine can once again be explored on foot, amongst cliffs and woodland, following in the footsteps of travellers of old.
Above the gorge, a country house overlooks this path. The house has retained the layout of those who built it, and its walls have already undergone extensive reinforcement. Its grounds reveal the three facets of the ravine: fields still under cultivation, woodland with native species, and plots returned to the protected natural area.
Travellers on the Camí Reial were merely passing through. Those who come here will finally be able to stop and stay a while.
