MEADOW LAKE RANCH is a remarkable sanctuary beneath towering peaks in the heart of British Columbia’s legendary cowboy country. The last of the wild, open West.
The ranch covers almost 700 total acres of grasslands, forests, and wetlands with 4 homes, a versatile collection of shops, barns and outbuildings. The 2 deeded parcels, 389ac, are connected by a 306ac grazing license. The property is well suited to multiple applications: private family retreat, destination resort, guest ranch, or a small working cattle operation.
The Main Ranch House anchors the property on a plateau with panoramic southwest views over the Home Range to the Marble Mountains and Meadow Lake. A covered front porch runs the full length, offering screened sitting and dining areas. Inside, the open main floor living area flows from gourmet kitchen to comfortable living room, with a well-appointed master suite and second bedroom. A log staircase leads to the loft with sleeping areas and games room. The homesite includes a large shop and garage, barn with hayloft, custom log carport and horse shelter, and heated greenhouse.
The Valenzuela Roadhouse represents the true soul of this historic place. Originally built around 1860 by a Mexican muleskinner, Raphael Valenzuela, as a pack train and stagecoach stop on the Cariboo Wagon Road, this hand-hewn log structure was meticulously restored in the early 2000s. The house was completely disassembled and reconstructed on a new foundation with modern improvements while preserving its frontier character. Across the road, a matching dovetail barn from the same era was similarly restored.
The Lakeview House sits high on a grassy hill at the east end of Meadow Lake with commanding 270-degree views. The post and beam house is divided into 2 suites, each with full kitchen, and bathroom. The larger Osprey Suite features bright open living and 2 bedrooms on 2 levels. The Eagle Suite offers a sun-filled kitchen and living room leading to 2 bedrooms and renovated bathroom. The fully fenced homesite includes an eight-stall barn.
The Ranch Manager’s House is a private 2-story log home in a tranquil grove at the northern boundary. Large south facing windows flood the main floor with natural light. A covered porch leads into the fenced yard and gardens.
The Hunter’s Cabin is charming and simple, with a covered front porch that looks south to the mountains. Inside are bunks and a double bed, a fridge and cooktop.
The Main Shop is 1525sf on a 6-inch reinforced concrete slab with a 500sf 2nd floor suit, kitchen and full bath. 600-amp power.
Infrastructure includes 5 drilled wells, dedicated septic systems and 200-amp power for each house. There are multiple equipment and hay sheds, auto waterers throughout.
The terrain is generally level with sub-irrigated pastures maintained by controlled drainage systems. 110 acres of wetland support abundant wildlife, from rare birds and waterfowl to herds of wild horses.
Meadow Lake Ranch sits on a volcanic plateau flanked by the Coast and Cariboo Mountain Ranges on the old Cariboo Gold Rush Trail. This is the land of Rivers, Ranches, and Ranges. Epic mountains and evergreen forests meet high desert and rolling grasslands where powerful rivers feed clean, clear lakes and vibrant wetlands. This spectacular and dynamic landscape is the foundation of a rich Indigenous history; its rugged, fertile ground has sustained an historic ranching culture since the mid 1800s.
The environment changes from season to season, providing a stunning backdrop for limitless outdoor adventures. Astonishing bird and wildlife viewing, world-class hunting and fishing, epic horseback adventures, mountain and gravel biking, skiing, and much more. Big country where the population is sparse, development is limited, and life is a little less hectic. Think Western Montana before the population boom.
Meadow Lake Ranch offers something increasingly rare in our modern world: authentic heritage, profound tranquility, and the freedom that comes only from living in wild, open spaces.
