Cannes occupies a singular position on the French Riviera, a city whose international reputation is built on more than its famous film festival. The Croisette, the city’s defining seafront boulevard, runs for nearly two kilometres between the Palais des Festivals and the Palm Beach peninsula, lined with grand Belle Époque and Art Deco facades, luxury hotels, and private beach clubs. The Palm Beach end of the Croisette is notably quieter and more residential than the central stretch, with direct views across the Bay of Cannes toward the Lérins Islands.

Daily life in Cannes centres on the Marché Forville, the city’s main covered market open every morning except Monday. The rue Meynadier offers independent food shops and casual dining. Restaurants of note include La Palme d’Or at the Martinez hotel and Mantel in the old town. The Îles de Lérins are reachable by ferry from the Vieux-Port in under 15 minutes.

Cannes is served by the Gare de Cannes on the main Marseille to Ventimiglia coastal rail line, with direct TGV services connecting to Paris in approximately five and a half hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is 26 kilometres to the east, approximately 30 minutes by car or taxi, and operates direct flights to over 100 destinations including major European capitals and long-haul hubs. The A8 motorway provides fast road access across the region.
