Azeitão is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Setúbal. The parish was formed in 2013 as part of a national administrative reform by merging the former parishes of São Lourenço and São Simão. They share the name ’de Azeitão’ due to the extensive olive groves that dominated the area during Arab times. The lands of Azeitão, represented by these two former parishes now unified, have been an integral part of the municipality of Setúbal since the foundation of the Kingdom of Portugal.
