Aups is a small Provençal market town in the Haut-Var, sitting at roughly 500 metres elevation on the southern edge of the Verdon natural park. It has a well-preserved medieval centre with narrow stone streets, a collegiate church dating to the 16th century, and a reputation as one of the principal truffle markets in France. The surrounding landscape is a mix of oak woodland, lavender fields, and open garrigue, with the Gorges du Verdon within easy reach to the north.

The weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings on the Place Martin Bidouré is a genuine working market, not a tourist fixture.
