According to the data card, this Pagode was manufactured on 26 November 1970 and soon left Germany bound for the USA. First registered in 1971, the SL remained in sunny Florida for around 50 years until its return to Germany, a fact that was plain to see once the bodywork had been stripped. The restoration work was subsequently carried out in full by a specialist German restoration company. Following a complete repaint, refurbishment of the interior, the soft top and the tyres, the engine, gearbox and differential were overhauled, etc. After the restoration, the Pagode was driven for a maximum of 500 km for test runs.
H-licence plate – no restrictions on entry into low-emission zones
Export is possible
For buyers outside the EU, the price is reduced to 158,000!
We subsequently sold it around 3 years ago to a collector of classic Ferraris, who has driven it just 2,300 km to date. Modified at his request with a new, absolutely perfectly shifting GETRAG 6-speed gearbox*) and adjustable KONI shock absorbers, this Pagoda delivers an unprecedented level of driving dynamics! Nothing now remains of the factory-standard, sluggish and, above all, noisy 4-speed 280SL. Further special requests included Barock alloy wheels (see photos 2/5/8), a removable wind deflector and automatic seatbelts, and the door panels have since been upgraded to European standard (see photos 3/4)
We will be presenting a new photo series shortly!
A perfect ‘daily driver’ that is not only extremely dynamic but also very relaxed to drive. This classic is in immaculate condition, never driven in the rain, no outstanding servicing, and has had just one owner!
On request, the Baroque alloy wheels can also be swapped back for steel wheels/hubcaps. Air conditioning can also be retrofitted by our Pagoda specialists for an additional charge!
)* GETRAG 6-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX
In the 1970s and 1980s, AMG converted a number of W113, 109 and 107 Pagodas to manual transmission using Getrag gearboxes. Getrag was already a gearbox supplier to Porsche and BMW in the 1970s. This gearbox gives the Pagoda unprecedented driving dynamics. Short shift travel, perfect gear ratios whether you prefer a relaxed or sporty driving style. It can be driven at significantly lower revs, which saves fuel and significantly reduces noise levels inside the Pagoda.
