There is nothing ordinary about this 1981 Chevrolet Malibu. Finished in Medium Garnet Red Metallic over a black interior, this professionally prepared drag car was built for the Modified Class and delivers turn-key racing excitement that makes every pass memorable.
At the heart of the Malibu is a professionally prepared GM block bored and stroked to 412 cubic inches, backed by an all-forged rotating assembly. The engine features Eagle H-beam rods, SRP flat-top pistons, a Crane crankshaft, AFR aluminum heads, a Competition Cam with roller rockers and solid lifters, and a port-matched Edelbrock Super Victor intake manifold. Supporting components include a Holley HP 750 CFM carburetor, electric fuel pump, Super Sucker carb spacer, MSD ignition, electric fans, electric water pump, and Hooker Super Comp headers. The main bearing caps have also been doweled for added durability.
Power is sent through a Powerglide automatic transmission equipped with a trans brake, Hughes high-capacity aluminum transmission pan and shield, flexplate shield, and a TSI custom torque converter with stall. Out back, a Buick Grand National rear end uses 4.10 gears and a spool, along with boxed lower control arms, adjustable upper control arms, reinforced frame brackets, and Moser 28-spline axles.
The chassis has been purpose-built with Global West tubular front A-arms, Moroso front drag racing springs, and Calvert 90/10 front shocks. Inside, the black interior is focused squarely on competition, featuring a full roll cage, aluminum accents, Auto Meter gauges, and an SSF Cheetah shifter.
The result is a well-built, well-behaved drag strip car that, according to the owner, has recorded 10.5-second quarter-mile times. Whether you’re looking for a competitive bracket car or simply want a professionally assembled machine ready for the track, this Malibu offers an impressive combination of preparation, proven performance, and race-ready equipment. The car comes with a green Michigan title and is sorted for immediate enjoyment. It will quickly chew up massive amounts of pavement a 1/4 mile at a time.
If you are looking for a turn-key racing experience in a classic Chevrolet package, this 1981 Malibu is a Bargain. You cannot begin to build a car of this caliber at the price offered here.
