This 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Custom Biarritz Classic is an extraordinary preservation example showing just 1,300 original miles. More than simply a remarkably original Eldorado, this car is one of only 2,000 Custom Biarritz Classics produced for the 1978 model year, a special limited-production model created to commemorate the final year of Cadillac’s full-size ninth-generation Eldorado. Of those 2,000 cars, approximately 1,499 were produced without a sunroof or Astroroof, as this example appears to have been.

The Custom Biarritz Classic was distinguished by its striking and model-specific Arizona Beige and Demitasse Brown Metallic two-tone exterior, accented by dark brown pinstriping and a Light Beige padded cabriolet-style vinyl roof. This wasn’t simply an unusual color combination selected from Cadillac’s regular palette-the Arizona Beige/Demitasse Brown treatment was specifically associated with the limited-production 1978 Custom Biarritz Classic. Additional identifying details included special Biarritz trim, body-color wheel covers and gold-plated Cadillac/Biarritz exterior emblems.

Inside, the Cadillac retains its beautiful two-tone Light Beige and Dark Saddle leather interior, featuring the deeply cushioned pillow-style seating that helped distinguish the Biarritz. Woodgrain trim spans the dashboard and door panels, while the exceptionally low mileage is reflected throughout the remarkably preserved cabin. From the upholstery and carpeting to the dashboard, controls and trim, the interior presents as an impressive example of late-1970s Cadillac luxury. Everything is reported to be in working order.

Under the hood is Cadillac’s 425ci V8, paired with an automatic transmission and Cadillac’s front-wheel-drive system. Despite accumulating only 1,300 original miles, this Eldorado has received substantial recent mechanical attention to address age-related components and make the car usable rather than simply displayable. Service documentation shows replacement or servicing of the CV axles, rear air shocks, fuel pump, radiator and heater hoses, transmission, sway-bar end links, drive belts, battery and control-arm bushings. The fuel tank was removed and cleaned, the carburetor was rebuilt and retested, and the car received a four-wheel alignment along with a synthetic oil and filter service.

The braking system was also comprehensively addressed, with service involving brake rotors, pads, calipers, hoses, master cylinder and fresh DOT 4 brake fluid. The air-conditioning system was converted from R12 to R134a, providing more practical modern servicing while retaining the comfort expected of Cadillac’s flagship personal luxury coupe.

The combination of 1,300 original miles, outstanding originality, documented recent mechanical servicing and the limited-production Custom Biarritz Classic package makes this a particularly compelling example of the final full-size Eldorado. Rather than a restored interpretation, this Cadillac preserves the materials, finishes, colors and character of the period while benefiting from extensive maintenance intended to keep it functioning as it should.
