Established in 1911 by Albert Octavius Dutton, the iconic Dutton brand has an automotive legacy of over 100 years. Dutton began as a bespoke body and boat builder creating coachwork for vehicles such as Rolls Royce, Hispano and Isotta. As the business grew, Albert purchased the land next door and his son Albie, an architect and engineer, designed and built a large workshop and showroom area to accommodate the expanding business.
The Dutton workshop became the official Porsche repairers for Norman Hamilton Porsche Melbourne and also Ferrari repairer for W.H.Lowe. The first car dealership the Dutton’s acquired was Fiat in 1965. Then again in the 1960s Dutton became the Victorian Citroen distributers. The business was awarded the Australian Citroen Dealer of the year for three consecutive years. During this time Albert’s grandson, Jeff Dutton, who was apprenticed in the workshop, decided to buy and sell these special collectable vehicles and soon the garage became a regular meeting place for car enthusiasts.
In 1996, Dutton expanded the business into the exotic car market becoming the Victorian distributor for Lamborghini, Lotus, Aston Martin, AC, TVR and Caterham. These car brands had been relatively unknown in Australia prior to the Dutton distributorship.
Today, the legacy carries on through the showcase of the absolute finest in rare, exotic and classic cars at its newest showroom located at 41 Madden Grove Richmond. The new Dutton showroom is quickly becoming an icon of Melbourne. Designed by the world-renowned architect Karl Fender, the building holds the largest array of rare and exotic cars in Australia. Spanned over several levels, the new facility is built on a grand scale, with a big meandering display area and workshop facilities.
It is an absolute destination point for car enthusiasts from all over the world.
