Ten years after opening its first New York store in 1837, the Tiffany & Co. catalogue incorporated French watches and clocks. By 1874 Tiffany & Co. had become a veritable Swiss watchmaker, producing timepieces by the lake in Geneva at 10 Grand Quai and that same year, Charles Tiffany opened an ultra-modern factory on Place Cornavin. Shortly thereafter his company was acknowledged as the leading watch and clock retailer in the US.
This watch epitomizes Tiffany & Co.’s production of exceptionally fine Swiss timepieces in the late 19th century. It is distinguished by its minute repeating movement of very small size, making it particularly complex and challenging to manufacture.
