This Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date timepiece is a member of the 1803 series that was an iteration of the brand’s flagship Day-Date watch which was released in 1956. The Day-Date models were available in 18K gold or platinum, and were the first to display both the date and the day of the week (spelled out in full) - through windows in the surface of the dial. The reference 1803 was introduced in 1958 and remained in production for twenty years.
The case of this model is made of 18K yellow gold and boasts brushed finish that was characteristic for the Day-Date models until the year 2,000 and the introduction of the six-digit reference with fully polished cases. The case measures 36 mm in diameter and is fitted with a fluted bezel and acrylic plastic crystal – another signature feature of that time period. The watch is offered with a black “pie pan” dial - the outer edge of the dial angles downwards, giving it the shape of an inverted pie pan. This model is equipped with a self-winding movement from the 1500 series of movements. The watch is water-resistant to 50 meters and worn on a blue leather strap, secured on the wrist with a tang buckle.
This timepiece is offered in a pre-owned condition and includes the manufacturer’s box and papers.
