This rare vintage Rolex Air-King Pool Intairdril watch with the 5500 reference number was released in the 1970s, a result of the partnership between Rolex and the Pool Intairdril Company - a petrol company working in Lybia. The watch belongs to the renowned Air-King series that was initially created in the 1930s but made famous during World War II. These Pool Intairdril timepieces were given to the petrol company’s employees typically as safety awards. If a rig would have a good run of accident-free days, rig managers and other personnel in charge of safety management would be given a Rolex Air-King (hence the “safety award” engraving on the case back).
The watch comes with a stainless case presented on a matching stainless steel bracelet. The case measures 34 mm in diameter and is fitted with a smooth bezel. The silver dial is covered with acrylic crystal and boasts Pool Intairdril logo at six o’clock. It features central hours, minutes and seconds. The watch is equipped with the 1520 self-winding mechanical movement that contains 17 jewels.
This timepiece is offered in a pre-owned condition and includes a gift box and the manufacturer’s papers.
