McLaren turned to nature to find the form for the Speedtail, mimicking its most aerodynamic shape, the raindrop. This watch follows the same inspiration, the titanium bezel has four notches styled to match the Speedtail’s hood-mounted air intakes and the layered carbon TPT pushers, which copy the air outlets behind the front wheels.

The tripartite case measures 41.80 x 48.25 mm and 14.15 mm in thickness, however, the case is significantly wider at 12 o’clock than at 6 o’clock, it features mirror polished, plain, and satin-finished effects in different areas with the combined use of titanium and Carbon TPT®. The skeletonised dial of the RM 40-01 features an oversize semi-instantaneous date aperture and a power reserve display, luminescent arrow-shaped hour markers and tips of the hour and minute hands, forward-swept Arabic numerals that are not applied but are instead milled from the surrounding black PVD titanium bridges. The front crystal features a triple contour curvature designed to decrease the taper and the thickness of the bezel and offers a water resistance of up to 50 meters.

The Speedtail has an array of straps available, including integrated straps in alligator leather and Velcro-fitted ballistic materials however, the asymmetrical integrated black rubber strap is a head-turner.

The RM 40-01 is powered by the in-house automatic tourbillon calibre CRMT4 and provides functions that include hours, minutes, seconds, tourbillon, large date, power reserve indication, function selector, and a 50 hour power reserve.
