The Patek Philippe Nautilus is the archetypal luxury sport watch. It invented a whole new physical form of wristwatch, with its integrated strap, oversized bezel, and thinness for being a water resistant sports watch. The Nautilus celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006, which was the occasion for the introduction of this reference 5712/A Nautilus with power reserve, moonphases, date and eccentrically positioned subsidiary seconds dial.
The Nautilus Ref. 5712 R in 18K rose gold is worn on a hand-stitched brown alligator strap
Apart from displaying the hours and minutes, they have a subsidiary seconds dial at 4 o’clock, a power-reserve indicator between 10 and 11 o'clock, and an analog date at 7 o’clock with an integrated moon-phase display. They have a three-part case with a sapphire-crystal case back, a screw-down crown, and a moon-phase corrector push piece in the side of the case. The corrector limits the water resistance of the watches to 60 meters. The movement is the self-winding Patek Philippe caliber 240 PS IRM C LU movement which despite its sophistication is merely 3.98 mm high, thanks to the 22K gold minirotor recessed in the main plate.
The solid 18kt rose gold case measures 42.8mm wide by 44mm long by 9mm thick. The front and display back crystals are sapphire. The bezel is shaped, for lack of a better description, like a square with soft corners. It is flat across the top with a brush finish, and with beveled sides which have a polished finish. The crown screws down and is also
buried deeply into its protective shoulders. The strap features a solid 18kt rose gold fold-over deployant clasp. The 5712’s case is water resistant to 60 meters.
As nice as the famous Nautilus case is, the dial is something special too. The color is Black/Brown "Brun Trame Index" and features applied luminous hour markers and luminous hands. The moonphases disk is dark blue with a golden moon and stars. There are also little splashes of red on the dial: the ‘1’ on the date scale and the first four positions in the power reserve scale.
Movement is the automatically winding Patek Philippe Caliber 240 PS with 29 jewels, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, a solid gold micro-rotor, is adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions and is stamped with the ultra-prestigious Unworn Patek Philippe Seal.
