This Very Rare and well preserved "Second Series" Patek Philippe Ref# 3970 rose gold is complete. It is accompanied with a certificate of origin, second case back, manual, setting pin and original box.
This rare Second Series example is in excellent condition, with extremely crisp "jumbo" hallmarks and has never been polished.
The 3970 perpetual chronograph manual wind watch, features a 36 mm case. This is a rose example with silver dial and rose gold buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, day, date, month, moon phase, leap year indicator, 24 hour indicator and chronograph.
Ref. 3970 was created following the success of the exceptional Ref. 2499. The design of the case of Ref. 3970, with its down-turned, fluted lugs, is clearly influenced by the form of the Ref. 2499. One main difference between the two models is the addition of the leap year indicator to the 3 o'clock subsidiary dial and 24-hour indicator to the 9 o'clock subsidiary dial. The 3970 series 2 has the same leaf hands and stick markers as the series 1. With a 3970 series 2, the registers match the dial in which the color of the dial is uniform. The series 1 would have a two tone dial. The second series has a screwback case and the 1st series was only made with a snap back case. The third series 3970 has baton hands instead of leaf, and hour markers with pointed tips. The printing of the dial itself will be much darker than on the first or second series.
