The Omega Speedmaster, also known as the legendary 'Moonwatch', is one of the most iconic and distinguished collections ever made. It is best known for its work with NASA as the officially sanctioned chronograph for use in space. First certified as such in 1965, it was used by astronauts in Gemini and early Apollo missions, and went on to be used not just on the Moon, but in many other missions both in space and on Earth. Despite all this, the watch was never built with spaceflight in mind. Instead, it was launched in 1957 with sportsmen and drivers as the target audience. This edition is notable for its hesalite (plexiglass) front and sapphire crystal caseback, which shows off the 1863 movement and is inscribed “First watch worn on the Moon.” Almost all Moonwatches use a solid caseback, making this version exceedingly rare and collectible. This Omega has undergone a thorough inspection of water resistance, accuracy, functionality and condition to determine the level of reconditioning required to meet our strict standards. It has also been referenced against technical documents and manufacturer records where available to ensure authenticity and a clean history. This is a pre-owned Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 3572.50.00. It has a 42mm Steel case, a Black Baton dial, a Steel bracelet, and is powered by a Manual movement. The case has a 4838xxxx serial making it approximately 18 years. It is supplied with a comprehensive 12 month Watchfinder warranty.
