In collaboration with large US watch retailer chain Tourneau, Swiss watch brand Franck Muller has produced a very limited edition set of watches for former MLB baseball player and Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson. While it isn't clear how the relationship began, Reggie Jackson worked directly with Franck Muller on the collection - consulting on the design and style of the pieces. The watches will be available exclusively through Tourneau watch stores who is not only an existing Franck-Muller dealer - but has offered special limited edition Franck Muller watches before.
Jackson seemed to choose the Conquistador Grand Prix style for his limited edition watches which will be limited to 150 pieces each. There will be three modes in total. Two version are mostly blue done in Ergal (an aluminum alloy) and titanium. One of these blue versions will contain a three-hand automatic movement, and the other version will contain an automatic chronograph movement. The third model will be in gold and titanium and feature the three-hand automatic movement. Each of the movements is made by Franck Muller. Most special for the Reggie Jackson watches is the "44" in place of "4" at 4 o'clock. 44 was Jackson's player number while he was playing for the New York Yankees.
To celebrate the watch Tourneau and Franck Muller held an event with Reggie Jackson along with a number of other sport professionals. In addition to appealing to the high-end athlete community, Franck Muller hopes visibility on athlete's wrists will expand brand awareness in the US. The Franck Muller Conquistador Reggie Jackson retails for $10,300 (three-hand in Ergal ref. 8900 SC AC-1), $16,000 (chronograph in Ergal ref. 8900 CC AC-1), and $20,300 (three-hand in 18k rose gold ref. 8900 SC GP 5N).
