Lasata, Jackie O's Childhood Hamptons Residence, Reportedly Sells for $52 Million
Corcoran Bridgehampton

Every home has stories to tell and in the case of this 8,500-square-foot, 10-bedroom masterpiece in East Hampton, New York, one of those stories belongs to Jackie Onassis Kennedy.

Lasata, which means “Peace of Place,” is an iconic American home dating back to 1917 and was once Jackie O’s childhood home. During the 1920s, the former Bouvier family summered in this graceful estate designed in arts-and-crafts style by noted architect Arthur C. Jackson. According to the book “Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis: A Life”, the home was owned by the late Ms. Onassis’ grandfather, John Vernou Bouvier Jr., and was given its name, Lasata, which comes from the Algonquin language of the native Montaukett people.

Today, the private home at 121 Further Lane presides over approximately seven acres of pristine parkland, carpeted with century-old linden, London planes, cork and American elm trees. True to its name, the estate is a place of reverie, where one can retreat for peace and quiet, while at the same time serving as an immaculate gathering space with family and friends.

The property was listed for $55 million by Corcoran’s Bridgehampton brokerage in May. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the buyer, represented by Sotheby’s International Realty, has recently acquired the home for $52 million.

Living the Country Estate Lifestyle

Reminiscent of a country estate in England or Ireland, Lasata is an idyllic retreat for those seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of the work week, a place to indulge in favorite pastimes and reconnect with loved ones, where the most omnipresent sound is the ocean waves in the near distance.

Meticulously restored in 2007 and again in 2019, Lasata retains its original integrity within its eight-bedroom main house and separate two-bedroom guest house. “Under the seller’s stewardship, the home’s interior has been painstakingly updated and enhanced while preserving its remarkable history. It’s an iconic property and truly one-of-a-kind,” says Eileen O’Neill of the Corcoran Group, who has the listing along with Ed Petrie of Compass.

The current interiors were designed by the renowned Pierre Yovanovich, recognized for his haute couture aesthetic combined with a particular inclination for raw and refined materials. This commitment to exceptional craftsmanship is evident throughout Lasata, with rooms accented by Yovanovich’s Arthur sofas, Flirting (high-back) armchairs with turbo-planed natural solid oak, blossom suspension lighting, cozy Mama Bear armchairs, solid oak tables and other signature pieces.

Gleaming, herringbone wood floors, a modern farmhouse kitchen with an apron sink and Shaker-style cabinetry, powder rooms with softly elegant tiling and console sinks, walls of windows and ample built-in library shelving invite idle days of rest and relaxation.

Impeccable Grounds Round Out a Classic Masterpiece

The estate, which also features a caretaker’s cottage, pool house and three-car garage with workshop, boasts masterfully designed gardens by the respected French landscape architect Louis Benech. Lush lawns, mature specimen trees and a flower meadow complement the setting, lending to its private park-like appeal. A sparkling pool is delightfully inset into the lawns behind the home, like a turquoise jewel.
