House in Tortola, British Virgin Islands
Shannon Heights consists of a spacious three bedroom private residence with an additional one bedroom guest house within a private estate. Both two story units are dramatically set apart from one another allowing for privacy between the occupants. The two dwellings each offer a complete kitchen and variety of living spaces determined by a winding drive that flows between them.
The property has been completely renovated in 2015, giving it a sophisticated contemporary look and feel. The house and its gardens were originally designed and built by a landscape architect and an electrical engineer who constructed the house with longevity and peaceful tranquility in a tropical environment.
The main house is spacious with a two-storey, three-bedroom unit that includes a den, office/game room, living room and two outside living and dining areas. The kitchen boasts travertine and marble tiles, stainless steel and recessed lighting, ceiling fans and comfortable bar seating next to the cook's center island. The walk-in pantry/laundry room has sufficient room for a deep chest freezer and more storage. A dining table divides the kitchen from the landing with steps to a mezzanine/atrium leading to the study and an entertainment room.
The exterior covered living and dining spaces beside the elegant marble pool, provide wonderful views toward Jost Van Dyke and the verdant green hillsides, which compliments the outdoor entertaining or relaxation. Stainless cables act as safeguards along the balcony rails giving this sophisticated country home a nautical theme.
There are three bedrooms with ensuite baths in the main house with a small study or baby's room just off of the master bedroom.
The guesthouse consists of a two-storey apartment with each level potentially self-contained. Currently upper floor serves as a a large bedroom studio apartment with ensuite bath and a comfortable kitchen/living/dining room below.
The house has been constructed to cope with all weather conditions with built in hurricane shutters on most windows and doors, and the luscious garden floral plants were chosen to be adaptable to the various weather conditions. Exotic plantings, a winding driveway, lawns and nearby forest canopy all help to set the stage of this well manicured estate home.
Access to the property is from the ridge road and the road into Shannon. The property is 10 to 15 minutes to either the heart of Road Town to the South or several beaches on the Northern coast. Beef Island airport is a half an hour drive along the ridge line road to the East. The ferry terminal, offering rides to St Thomas, St John, Jost Van Dyke and other nearby islands, is about half an hour West.
The property has a generator and additional large storage/pump room below the main house.
