110724CEL64 - This fabulous 17th-century château of 650m² is midway between Biarritz and Pau in South-West France. The property has been exquisitely restored by the current owners who have created five wonderful Bed and Breakfast suites and a highly successful wedding and events business. The owners live in the château, but there is a two-storey barn which could be converted into private accommodation for the new owners to live in - or it could be transformed into a holiday cottage or a studio for hosting art and writing workshops, wellness and yoga retreats, cookery and Jurançon wine-tasting courses... - Built in 1630, this enchanting château has been beautifully renovated and restored using authentic materials and ensuring that the interior is furnished, decorated and equipped to the highest standard. Many luxurious modern features have been incorporated into the restoration, such as a heated indoor swimming pool, a huge function room with a professional kitchen, individual heat pumps in every room and double glazing throughout.
As you approach the château along a private drive, the views of the Béarnaise countryside and the Pyrénées are stunning. The château and its outbuildings are set around a gravel courtyard which has room for up to 30 cars to park (ideal for weddings and functions). At the centre of the buildings, there is an impressive four-storey tower with glazed windows on the top floor for breathtaking panoramic views!
The main buildings of the château comprise a South Wing and a West Wing:
THE SOUTH WING... A light and airy entrance hall in the South Wing leads into a superb dining room where breakfast is served to guests. There is also a lovely salon with a fireplace and woodburning stove, a games room and a guest cloakroom with a WC. Adjacent to the dining room is a private kitchen where the owners prepare the breakfasts, along with a scullery and a wine cellar.
On the first and second floors there are four elegant guest suites, each one with a salon and an en suite shower room. Each suite has its own theme and the décor has been meticulously designed for maximum luxury. The third floor of the South Wing is unconverted attic space with outside access to the top of the four-storey glazed tower.
THE WEST WING... Due to the high demand for weddings and events at the château, the owners have recently created a vast function room with a minstrels' gallery on the ground floor of the West Wing, along with a newly equipped professional kitchen and preparation kitchen for caterers. Also on this floor is a brand new heated indoor swimming pool (15m x 3.3m), a laundry room and a guest cloakroom with two WCs, one of which has wheelchair access.
On the upper ground floor, there is a bedroom suite with a salon and an en suite bathroom - and on the first floor, there are two further bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom. Also on this floor is a children's games room with a mezzanine sleeping area, which is available for children to use during weddings and functions.
The 3.7-hectare estate surrounds the château in all directions and the mix of meadowland and mature woodland is ideal for keeping horses, if desired. The grounds have huge potential for more landscaping and would be ideal for themed gardens, a mini-golf course, a croquet lawn... You could also create a romantic outdoor wedding area with gazebos, pergolas and arches, all against a stunning mountain backdrop!
Nestling on a south-facing hillside, the château is in an absolutely perfect location for anyone who loves both the mountains and the sea. Several ski resorts are about 70 minutes away to the south - and Atlantic beach resorts are just over an hour away to the west. There are also numerous swimming lakes in the surrounding area, along with exciting watersports on the Gaves (rivers).

Set in an extensive estate of 3.7 hectares, the grounds around the château have huge potential for more landscaping. Themed gardens could be created, along with an outdoor wedding ceremony area. You could even make a mini-golf course, a boules piste and a croquet lawn to entertain your guests! Terraces for outdoor dining could also be installed, along with a barbecue area, a summer kitchen, a children's play area and perhaps a paddling pool for toddlers...
This magnificent château is both a wonderful family home and a highly successful business, offering fairytale weddings and exclusive Bed and Breakfast holidays in a fabulous hillside location.
Once renovated, the property's two-storey barn could be used as private accommodation for the owners or rented out as a holiday cottage. Alternatively, the barn and function room (when not in use for weddings) could be used for hosting themed leisure activity holidays, such as writing, painting and photography workshops, wine-tasting and cookery courses, yoga retreats... Should you like the idea of opening a beautiful tearoom or a restaurant in the château, the professional kitchen is ready and waiting! The château could also be run as a fabulous boutique hotel.
