Palace / Manor House
The House has 17 acres of land and 53.000 sqf of covered area of construction.
The House, although located in the heart of the medieval city center, has a beautiful 10 acres forest, with magnificent matured trees, where you can find the old Tea House, the Tennis Court and the Riding Ring.
The existence of 'Casa das Brôlhas' is quite remote, although it is not possible to specify at what time the first house was built. We only know that the Brôlhas bond was established in 1636 by Guiomar de Castro, daughter of the Brolhas Earl, Gonçalo da Fonseca and Castro (LARANJO, 1989, p. 51). In the current building, some elements of the previous building remain, such as the vaults supported by columns, in the kitchen and in old rooms, located on the ground floor (IDEM).
The House we know today is an eighteenth century rebuilding, from 1777, due to the initiative of its owner at the time, D. Pedro da Fonseca e Castro e Sousa Osório e Melo (IDEM).
Its plan defines an interior courtyard, formed by more recent constructions, and which is accessed by an arched door. The main façade, with five panels, divided by padded pilasters, develops on two floors, opened by a set of symmetrical spans, with a low arch lintel. The central part of the façade, with a triangular pediment that reveals the advanced period of the 18th century when the property was built, gains special relevance. The portal, flanked by pilasters, is surmounted by a lintel similar to that of the remaining spans, extending through the large window and coat of arms.
The interior is structured according to the staircase of the Grand Hall, which is divided into two parallel sections with a balustrade of stonework and a baseboard of tiles from the 18th century. The rooms are decorated with stucco and paintings according to the taste of the end of the century, with a small chapel.
Situated in the old Outeiro, later known as Largo das Brôlhas, this property imposes itself in the historical centre of Lamego, not only for its isolated and highlighted implantation, but for the magnificence of its façade, of great dimensions.
