A great hide-away if one wants to be incognito, but on walking distance from shops and a brisk bike ride to the beach trough the dunes.

It’s a house full of playful quips and character, ups and downs, tough corners and soft curves and special details. For example, all the outlets and switches are made of old-fashioned Bakelite. For the entrance we go through a beautiful wrought iron gate in Art Nouveau style, through a narrow alley full of climbing plants and the porch, which is paneled with oak strips, to the antique Art Nouveau front door; a fox’s beak, because the Art Nouveau was fond of motifs from nature. In the windows you see the eyes, the door handles are the nose.

The spacious vestibule with cast floor, where your eye immediately falls on a piece of art behind which the bicycle storage is hidden. Behind the bike shed is another storage room, as big as the room above it. High ceilings (3.5 to 4 meters) create a spacious feeling.

On the left side antique louvre doors from Egypt, which hide the meter cupboard, bookcase, and wardrobe from view. On both sides of the hall, the rooms are equipped with steel frames with glass. In the ceiling the atrium provides daylight to all rooms. To the left is the particularly beautiful bedroom; intimate and serene, due to the contrasting palette of black window frames, mahogany-colored wooden floors and beams and light walls.
Here you can read a book by the hot light of the Sew Me lamps, a funny invention of l’artiste lui-même. Adjacent is the study, and on the other side is the second bedroom with stairs to the sleeping area.

Both rooms have ventilation ducts. The bedrooms are a few steps higher than the floor level, at 1.20m height, so there is efficient closet space (both hanging and lying) under these rooms realized. Behind this closet space there is extra storage space for vacation gear, for example. One room is equipped with convection radiators. This is not used since the underfloor heating provides sufficient heat. The rest of the house is heated by underfloor heating, making the house a very comfortable indoor climate year-round.

The living room is a glorious celebration of Van der Bijl’s ingenuity. The living room is highlighted by the seating, a classic wooden sailboat, a Flying Dutchman, with hand-stitched leather seats inside. On the other side is the dining table, made from a Vintage Klepper Kayak with a folding frame.

From the living room through the three French doors access to patio, which is surrounded by road plates from World War II, between which the hedera and clematis grow their colorful foliage. A delightful, low maintenance garden to enjoy the sun in the afternoon. From the garden also access to the parking at the rear.

The kitchen is illuminated by a skylight of walkable glass, connecting the first floor with the first floor. Two cast iron columns from a French factory patiently keep watch next to the kitchen island. Your guests can cozy up here with the bar chairs while cooking. The custom-made kitchen has an industrial character due to the stainless-steel fronts and the sturdy, bluish-steel kitchen island with a substantial hob containing four gas burners and a wok burner.

The worktop offers enough space for the avid hobby cook to fully indulge, because there is no less than 5 m² worktop. Furthermore, a double sink, storage space in both the basement and the side wall of the kitchen with a mahogany cabinet wall for maximum storage space. Of course, this beautiful kitchen is equipped with corresponding appliances, such as a SMEG oven and microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator, and freezer.

Around the corner the beautiful bathroom with large walk-in shower, toilet, and sink. In addition, a separate WC with washbasin for guests.

Through a spiral staircase to the top, here is in the former engine room a wellness area with a wonderful Finnish sauna, a massage shower and the garden door to the lovely roof terrace facing south.

The house and its interior are one; they belong together, and they are made for each other. Should you feel the same now, it might be good to know that all unique items and beautifully designed furniture pieces are available with the house at additional cost, to be requested from the broker.

If ”Mr. De Vos” didn’t already have you in his pocket at the entrance, it certainly will after the tour. The old glue factory and printing plant has become a universe of its own, with a personality that puts a smile on your face again in every corner. Would you like to see this sublime work of art with your own eyes? We will gladly give you a tour.
