Interior Designer Enhances Elegance and Tranquility at Harding Estate
There was much to draw the interior designer, Lisa Melone Cloughen, principal of Melone Cloughen Interiors, to this estate home when searching for a home in 2006. There was the Harding community–distinctive, pastoral and yet minutes from Morristown, Chatham and Madison as well as only 33 miles from Manhattan. Magnificent pines frame the 3-acre estate securing its privacy. Lush plantings add texture and color to the vast manicured lawn, define the updated pool area and anchor the all-brick, 6-bedroom residence. Indoors, expansive windows bring the outdoors in to well-sized formal rooms and everyday gathering spaces. Hardwood floors prevail, five of the six bedrooms are en suite with bath and the finished lower level allows for laid back camaraderie.
Refined window casings, crown and baseboard moldings now enhance the home. The completely renovated sun room features a paneled tray ceiling, bamboo hardwood floor, walls of double casement windows, and French doors opening to one of the two bluestone and brick patios. Sliding doors open to the outdoors from the adjoining music room (optional office). The family room has a large bay window, coffer-detailed ceiling and fireplace with a beautifully carved mantel and limestone casing. The fully renovated formal powder room features Carrara marble mosaic flooring. The gourmet kitchen with custom white cabinetry, Giallo granite countertops, high end stainless steel appliances and French doors, opens on to a brick and blue stone patio overlooking the stunning grounds and pool.
Upstairs is a gracious master suite with a luxurious bathroom and walk-in closet. Five additional bedrooms complement this level. The residence totals six full and two and a half baths.
On the lower level, the recreation area sports a replaced acoustic tile ceiling and porcelain-tile floor. Here also is a temperature-controlled wine cellar with approximately 450-bottle capacity, laundry room, half bath, and two storage rooms including a utility room.
A town characterized by social gatherings at the post office, scenic bridle paths, farm stands and country auctions may sound like a description from New Jersey’s rural past, but this charming scene can be found right in Harding. Known for its prestigious address and natural beauty, Harding is also desired for its population’s respect for privacy, excellent schools and ease of access to Manhattan.
