Majestic Estate With A Rich History

At the end of a secluded road, nestled deep in the green forests and embraced by the mirror-like waters of Lake Tämnaren, lies Harbonäs Estate. Here, on a vast headland in Harbo Parish, the echoes of history whisper through the towering ash trees framing the breathtaking view of the lake.

The origins of Harbonäs trace back to the Middle Ages. As early as 1312, it was mentioned in tax records under the name ”Näs.” In the 17th century, the estate was renamed Harbonäs, and in 1632, the noble lady-in-waiting Görvel Posse commissioned the construction of the manor house. During the 18th century, the main building took on its current appearance when the red timber façade was plastered and painted white, and the windows were expanded to welcome the light. The grand hall, with its green walls and an inviting open fireplace, tells the tale of passing centuries. A portrait of the current owner’s grandmother, painted by Edwin Almgren, hangs as a tribute to Harbonäs’ distinguished lineage. With meticulous renovations over the years, the estate has been transformed into a fully functional home, with electricity and water installed in the 1940s and geothermal heating added in the 1980s.

The estate spans approximately 526 hectares, including a historic marble quarry where the distinctive pink Harbonäs marble was extracted from the 13th century until the mid-1900s. This exquisite stone has been used in renowned landmarks such as Uppsala Cathedral and Aspnäs Church and is also beautifully incorporated into the manor’s interiors.

Harbonäs offers vast hunting grounds teeming with moose, deer, red deer, and wild boar, generating annual revenue from hunting activities. Additionally, the estate encompasses around 224 hectares of water. The surrounding landscape is adorned with scenic walking trails and a picturesque nature reserve.
