Ducal Villa in Chianti is situated in a rural hamlet in Chianti Classico.

The villa was built in the 18th century on a pre-existing 15th century farm site. The architectural style brings to mind the typical country homes of the Tuscan grand-ducal families.

Ranieri Mancini, the Bishop of Fiesole was a guest there in 1777 on his pastoral visit to the nearby church. In the first decades of the 20th century the entire building complex was bought by the present owners who underwent expansion and restructuring.

The villa is of a compact volume, almost squared, covered with a hip roof from the centre of which the dovecote tower appears. On the facade and up to two short staircases there is the main arched entrance door, with its ashlar frame, overlooking the Italian garden and the stone-framed rectangular windows.

The interior follows the iconic style of country houses with the rooms located around a central hall. The entrance hall has a large 16th century stone fireplace with a sculpted architrave bearing the family coat of arms and a coffered ceiling with large beams supported by volute shelves.

In the other rooms there are ornamental motifs in a neo classical style. Of particular note is a living room with rich 19th century decoration. The dining room is decorated with paintings depicting rural life and landscape.

The Italian-style garden occupies both the square in front of the villa and the oratorys.

In 1924, the owner of this villa became one of the founding members of the consortium for the protection of the typical Chianti wine. This later became the “Gallo Nero” consortium. The current property includes 30 hectares of land of which 5.5 hectares are Chianti Classico. The remainder of the land is arable and woodland.
In the Italian-style garden we find the oratory of S.F.N.. This remains a consecrated church with its Latin cross plan and its period façade. The entrance door is rectangular in “pietra serena” with the architrave crowned by its ducal family coat of arms bearing the date 1781. This is of the typical bell shape and is framed in “pietra serena”.

The interior of the church has barrel vaults and an elaborate stone altar with an 18th century painting depicting the apparition of the Madonna and child to Saint Filippo Neri. Above the altar there is a fresco inside an oval alcove. The structure also bears on its walls tombstones family members.
