Lew Geffen Sotheby's International Realty Port Elizabeth is situated on the warm Indian Ocean coast line of South Africa. It was orginally discovered by the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama, in the early 14th. Century. It was however only founded and fully settled in more recent times (1820) by the British, and was in fact named after Sir Rufane Donkin's deceased wife, Elizabeth. A memorial is still erected in her memory on Donkin Square. Port Elizabeth is a vacation and commercial/industrial city as both play a major role in it's financial well-being. The city boasts many of the major car manufacturers and subsidary companies head-quarters and is home to Africa's only deep water harbour COEGA. The city is the second largest city in terms of area and the fifth largest in terms of population in South Africa (1.1 million). The city is also an important centre for the South African motor industry. The city stretches out along the coast line and enjoys many of natures wonders from frolicking dolphins to whales at play in our bay. The beaches are clean and many are isolated and therefore unspoilt with an incredible variety of water coastline features, from sandy beaches to rocky out crops. The city is a diverse culture and is known in South Africa as the FRIENDLY CITY, a tradition we Port Elizabetheans are proud to uphold. Temperatures are moderate all year round with rain scattered throughout the year. The summers are warm with a very temperate humidity level. Winters are mild and pleasant, and it is significant that the climate is one major contributor to the reputation of the area as offering an outstanding quality of life.
