Exquisite antique hetian white jade (nephrite) from the Qing Dynasty, ancient China. Come with beautiful light red color agate necklace.
Size (L*W*H): 6.1 cm * 5.8 cm * 0.5 cm
Meaning: It is carved as a flower basket and a butterfly, and was likely a pendant for a lady coming from an affluent family. Flower basket is one of the "eight treasures" in Chinese and Tibetan Buddhism, and symbolizes fortune and joy. Butterfly is a common pattern in ancient Chinese culture and is the embodiment of regeneration, beauty and longevity (butterfly, or Dei, in Chinese, also means 90 years old, or longevity in general).
Workmanship: thoroughly traditional, i.e. handmade by tools powered by the artist himself, instead of modern electricity-powered machinery. This method is already lost in China and elsewhere ever since the introduction of electronic tools and mass-production. Very artsy and classical design.
Material: This piece is white, with a greenish tint and beautiful texture. Hetian jade is the most precious kind of jade in traditional Chinese culture, only produced in the mountains in Xinjiang Province. In traditional Chinese belief, jade is closely related to the virtues of a Jun-Zi, or upright man. According to Confucius, the shine of jade is the embodiment of the virtue of Ren, i.e. gentleness and benevolence.
Condition: perfect condition. There are some foggy appearance and internal structures visible, which is typical of old jade. As you can see from the pictures, it also has a unique shine typical of old Chinese jade above 100 years old.
